Phuket Webcam at Patong BeachMay 15, 2012 | 12:30 pmThis Phuket Blog has been online now for 6 years. At about the same time I started the Phuket Weather Blog, which was born when I realised that a lot of people search online for weather information.
The Big Buddhas of PhuketMay 10, 2012 | 1:00 pmBuddhas? Surely there's only one "Big Buddha" in Phuket? The big white one on the hill? Yes, that's the one known as THE Big Buddha, and it certainly is impressive. We've been driving up that hill for 10 years since before construction began.
Nguan Choon Tong Herb Shop in Phuket TownApr 17, 2012 | 10:30 pmThere's a place on Thalang Road in the heart of Old Phuket Town that always turns heads. If you walk past this place, you are bound to notice the smell.
Sikh Temple (Gurdwara) in Phuket TownApr 12, 2012 | 7:30 amPhuket, as I keep trying to say on this blog, has lots of history and culture, lots of festivals, a wide variety of people and religions, which is not surprising when you look on a map. Phuket is on the Andaman coast, would have made an ideal stopping off point on sea journeys with sheltered anchorages on the east coast, and then there was the tin mining boom and finally, in the last 30 years, the tourism explosion.
Green Forest RestaurantApr 7, 2012 | 1:30 pmI first saw the Green Forest restaurant over a year ago, when we took a walk up Monkey Hill (Khao To Sae) which is the big hill on the north side of Phuket Town with all the TV and Radio aerials on it. The restaurant was brand new then, we went in for a drink only and decided to go back "some time".
Phuket Seashell MuseumApr 7, 2012 | 1:30 pmI had a free day last weekend, with some vague plans to try some new places. After lunch at a restaurant on Monkey Hill in Phuket town, and a little walk in town visiting a Hindu temple and a Sikh temple, I drove down towards Rawai beach on a hot sunny afternoon.
Sa Nang Manora Forest Park, Phang NgaApr 7, 2012 | 1:30 pmOn our little exploratory drive around Phang Nga a couple of weeks ago, as well s visiting the very interesting Wat Thamtapan temple and eating good food with a great view at Tha Sai Seafood, we also stopped for a little walk at Sa Nang Manora Forest Park which had been recommended by friends. Since we were already in Phang Nga town checking out the temple, we thought "well, why not?" and headed out of town on the road north (which incidentally I'd like to follow further one day).
Thanoon SeafoodMar 19, 2012 | 3:00 pmWe had some holidays around the end of September and early October. It was the kids school holiday and also my parents were over from the UK.
Restaurant at Cape PhromthepMar 19, 2012 | 3:00 pmSo, hopefully most people know where Cape Phromthep is? Right at the south tip of Phuket on the west side, touted by many guidebooks and websites as the place to watch the sunset. We have been many times in the past for the sunset, for nice views, and I finally hiked down the path to the end of the cape earlier this year - first time I had done that after living here for more than 10 years! There is also a restaurant here.

Street procession for the Birth and Death GodMar 19, 2012 | 3:00 pmOn the 3rd night of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, our local shrine in Kathu village has a small street procession around the village which the schedules tell me is for "Propitiation of the Birth-Death Gods". The last few years I have heard long bursts of firecrackers on this 3rd night, and last year had a quick look to see what was going on.
